SERVICE DOG INFO...

This part of the website is so busy that it is hard to keep up! I have had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the most incredible people.  This has taken me in a direction that I had never imagined and I am so appreciative for everyone involved in Service and Therapy Dogs from the families that will rely on them, to the trainers who help prepare them.  This is and will continue to be the best part of what I do.

Thank you!

If you've sent me pictures I will do my best to add updates!

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ARE SOME OF THE UPDATES ON SUNSET PUPPIES SERVING IN 2010!

The Buddy walk was this past Saturday and what great fun!  It was great to see Riley and his family.  I also had the honor of meeting and talking to several children with down syndrome.  What wonderful and special people these young ones are as well as their families and friends.  If you know anyone with down syndrome please consider donating to the Willamette Valley Down Syndrome Association at www.wvdsa.com.  They sponser so many needed and great programs such as the Buddy Walk and others.

I just got an update on Boo's progress from her family

Sunset's Boomerang aka BOO is a remarkable dog.  She is gorgeous with a beautiful coat, A real show stopper since she was born.  Big bold head, good bone, and excellent growth pattern.  Never skinny or fat.  A really perfect growth rate.  She is constantly complimented from breeders to trainers to people who show.  She is all around gorgeous.

She really is a brilliant dog.  She earned her AKC Star Puppy at 11 weeks old. Her CGC at 6 months and has two more accomplishments before earning her PAT.  Public Access Test.  Which is almost unheard of!  She is only 8 months old!  Just last weekend as we were walking through the Portland Farmers Market on a training day her Service Dog Trainer turned around and told me that I really got the "Cream of the Crop" .

In her Service Training School Boo is used as the Example Dog.  When another dog is cautious, nervous, refusing, whatever it may be.  Boo is sent to the front of the class to demonstrate.  She is a confidant, high energy, brilliant, loyal dog who has provided more love to our family than I ever thought possible.  She still has another year and a couple months of training before she is completely certified in the State of Oregon as a Service Dog for our son.  I have no doubt that she will accomplish this.   She is happy, healthy, and smart, smart, smart!

***We are super excited that Buddy -a service dog chosen from a Ginger/Drake litter- passed his Canine Good Citizen Test at the age of 6 months. THAT IS OUTSTANDING!!!  Congrats to all who are involved in his training.   Good luck in the future with his continued training!

He has since passed his Public Access Test

***If you know someone who could benefit from a service dog, please fill out the contact page and give a brief story.

BOO earning her STAR Puppy Award

Boo is very near earning her CGC as well!

This page is devoted to sending you to a special blog with an inspiring story.  A very wonderful family will be picking up one of our puppies early next year for their son Riley.  He has Down Syndrome.  They have been looking for a Golden Retriever to be a service dog to their son.  Buying one that is already trained can cost  $15,000-$20,000.  This blog was born and now a community is raising money for the training this pup will need to provide friendship, confidence, and independence to Riley.  If you would like to donate, or would just like to read a wonderful story to brighten you day, please visit the link below.
